Responsible Investing
Investing responsibly, creating value
Central to our process
Responsible investing is a core element of our investment process. First introduced at Coutts in 2017, our approach involves a keen focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors. We have refined our methods to reflect the evolution of sustainable investing as an efficient way to drive returns over the long term.
Our framework for positive change
Across the funds and portfolios we manage, responsible investing is seamlessly integrated into our process in three ways.
- Selective investment: we rigorously assess opportunities through an ESG lens.
- Active stewardship: through our partners, we engage with companies and exercise voting rights to influence positive change and innovative thinking on ESG issues. We believe such activity could lead to more robust long-term returns.
- Strategic exclusions: we avoid investing in businesses that fall short of our ESG criteria.
Engaging with industry
We are proud to collaborate with leading global initiatives to help shape the future of responsible investing.
Through active participation in industry working groups, we advocate for robust ESG integration across the investment landscape, which we believe should lead to better quality outcomes for investors.
Our principles and policies
Our ESG principles are underpinned by the rigorous environmental, social and ethical risk framework of NatWest Group, pursuing consistency, integrity and transparency across all managed assets.
