Taking Pride in our LGBTQ+ clients

We are once again proud to support Pride month – find out more about how we work with and learn from our LGBTQ+ clients and colleagues.

Coutts is proud to support Pride month. As a B Corp we are committed to supporting social and professional diversity to better reflect and support the communities we serve, and society more broadly.

As a bank we also pride ourselves on personalised service. To provide a service that’s actively interested in a client’s wellbeing and prosperity means we never want to simply talk about why we believe in diversity – we must practice our beliefs too. We know how important it is to be considerate and sensitive to all client circumstances.

How do we do support LGBTQ+ clients?

“Every client experience is different, whoever they are,” says Mike Anderson, Coutts’ Key Client Lead. “For our LGBTQ+ clients we want to ensure we are nuanced and adaptable without assuming. We understand that those in same sex relationships may have different wealth dynamics and goals which we will work to support with them – always on a highly tailored and personalised level.”

Through our financial planning services our colleagues actively look to build relationships with clients who, as LGBTQ+, may have specific considerations. For example, our private bankers have experience working with clients who may have financial planning goals which involve supporting businesses or charities working closely with LGBTQ+ communities. Similarly, those in same sex relationships may require bespoke advice on wills and estate planning with specific dynamics regarding the beneficiaries. We also understand that LGBTQ+ individuals may have goals around family planning involving fertility treatment, surrogacy or adoption costs.

We take pride in understanding and supporting our clients with an open and collaborative approach. “Advocacy for Pride is one thing,” says Mike. “But we also want to demonstrate this in our service and the role we play in supporting the lives of our LGBTQ+ clients, and by adding value.”

A key part of that is in our own learning. By working with clients, both private and commercial, with diverse orientations and experiences, we hope to constantly improve our service, understanding how we can be more than just a bank. This has to be reflected in our own operations. Coutts supports its own gender and LGBTQ+ inclusion champions, and employee-led networks for colleagues, in line with the broader NatWest Group. This allows our communities to share and informs what we do as a bank.

However, we recognise there is always more we can do and part of our own learning will be in how we can continue making strides on that journey. As we move forward, we’re grateful to our clients and colleagues who continue to inspire us and make us proud in their support for LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, showing the strength of diversity every day.

If you have any specific requirements or goals, your private banker is waiting to hear from you.
