How do I log in to Online Banking with my username, card and reader for the first time?

To log in to Coutts Online you will need

  • Private clients - debit card and card reader
  • Business users - smartcard and card reader

Before logging in for the first time with a smartcard (business users only), you must change your PIN. To do this

  • Insert your card into the reader or press ON
  • Press the Identify button Identify button
  • Enter the PIN that was sent to you by post
  • Press OK
  • Enter PIN, a 4 digit number of your choice
  • Press OK
  • Repeat PIN
  • Press OK

To log in to Coutts Online

  • Select the Login button
  • Enter your username, this is sent to you by post and is usually a mixture of letters and numbers, unique to you.  If you have forgotten your username, contact the Coutts Digital Helpdesk on +44 (0)20 7770 0000. If you are a business user, please refer to your Administrator.
  • Select Next
  • To generate a Passcode, insert your card into the reader or press ON
  • Press the Identify button Identify button
  • Enter your PIN
  • Press OK
  • Enter the Passcode displayed into the Passcode field on your screen (no spaces)
  • Select Next

We will NEVER ask you to provide a passcode over the phone. If you are ever asked for this information, please disconnect the call and contact the Coutts Digital Helpdesk on +44 (0)20 7770 0000 immediately from a different phone.

Please note, while we use up-to-date security measures to ensure that our service is safe and secure, we also recommend that you take the following precautions:

  • Keep your computer secure. Install anti-virus and firewall software on any devices that you use to log in. Always ensure that they, and the browsers you use, are kept up-to-date.
  • Always keep your PIN and passcode secret. We will never ask for these over the phone or by email.
  • Treat emails that you receive with caution and be wary of emails or telephone calls asking you to reveal any personal security details. Neither the police nor we will ever contact you to ask you to reveal your PIN or any passcodes.
