Hotel of the Month – Bath Royal Crescent

Hotel of the Month – Bath Royal Crescent

The Bath Royal Crescent Hotel sits on one of the city’s most exclusive streets, overlooking a magnificent park, perfectly located to enjoy one of their delicious summer picnics during the warmer months.

The building itself is a stunning Grade 1 listed terrace, its frontage belying the size of the hotel once you walk inside. With a charming, traditional drawing room in which to relax as the receptionist takes your details to check you in, even the slightest queue is out of the question at this Relais and Chateaux favourite.

At the back of the hotel, make the most of any sunshine to relax in the romantic, leafy ‘secret’ garden. Leaning out towards the hotel’s second building, housing the restaurant and spa, it’s a real sun trap and ideal for enjoying one of the hotel’s sumptuous afternoon teas or perusing the papers over a leisurely breakfast.

The hotel’s restaurant, the Dower House serves a delicious range of contemporary British cuisine, which can be served al fresco should the weather allow, or in the dining room which is bright and airy and decorated in magnificent silks, giving a fresh yet luxuriously contemporary feel.

Another favourite with both guests and day visitors is the Bath House Spa. Created from a converted coach house, the spa retains many of its original features with its stone clad pool and hot and cold plunge pools built out of old wooden caskets. The treatments are equally as unique with a secluded marble table ensuring that body scrubs are given in the easiest way – no hopping into and out of showers and making a mess – the luxurious scrub will simply be washed off as the treatment finishes.

The latest treatment to be launched by the spa for summer is the challenging lemon detox – an exclusive retreat. Entitled the Royal Detox, this intensive three day fasting programme nourishes and nurtures you through the initial detox period and prepares you in body and mind for a continued weight loss or cleansing programme. You can relax, rejuvenate and be pampered like a queen with the included treatments, whilst shedding unwanted pounds and eliminating accumulated toxins. It’s a tough but effective treatment – it’s just worth ensuring you experience the delights of the restaurant before you begin!

Bath is known as a wonderful place to visit year round, with its fantastic Christmas markets in the winter. But at this time of year it really comes into its own with stunning parklands and waterways to explore. And it is exploring the waterways with the Royal Crescent’s own boat, the Lady Sophina, that will really round off a trip to the city.

One of the finest of the 1920’s river launches, the boat has been immaculately restored to its original glory, winning the best-restored boat award at Henley. It can be hired out for champagne cruises, afternoon tea or simply to use as a private charter – a gloriously unique way to celebrate that special occasion.
