Additional support for the arts

Coutts is not only proud of our national sponsorships, but our local involvement as well.

English National Opera

Coutts sponsored the English National Opera’s performance of Robert Wright & George Forrest’s Kismet at The London Coliseum on 28 June 2007.

Kismet premičred in 1953 and was a hit on Broadway and an even bigger hit in London, where it originally played at the Stoll Theatre. This is the first new West End production of Kismet for almost 30 years and West End favourite Michael Ball starred in the role of Hajj/Poet in this new production.

Live Theatre

Coutts was delighted to sponsor the production of The Pitmen Painters at The Live Theatre in Newcastle from 20 September to 2 November.

Live Theatre has been closed to the public since August 2006 but work started on the new building in late summer 2005. The result is a combination of historic Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings with contemporary architecture. The Pitmen Painters is the highlight of the Live Theatre’s season of events, celebrating the opening of the new building.

The play is written by Lee Hall, the writer of Billy Elliot. In 1934 a group of miners and a dental mechanic hired a professor from Newcastle University to teach an evening of art appreciation. Unable to understand each other they decided to embark on one of the most unusual experiments in British Art as the Pitmen became Painters.
