Chain Play II

The Almeida is one of the world's most dynamic and innovative theatres, where the finest actors, directors and writers have produced some of the best work of their careers. Coutts is proud to be in its sixth year of support for the Islington based Almeida Theatre as its Principal Sponsor.

Following on from the huge success of A Chain Play in March 2007, Coutts was delighted to extend their partnership by sponsoring the Chain Play II – the Almeida Theatre's 2008 Fundraising Benefit evening which was held on Friday 29 February. The Almeida Theatre has commissioned 5 distinguished writers to contribute to a Chain Play II - Stephen Adly Guirgis, Richard Bean, Neil LaBute, Abi Morgan and Tanya Ronder. Written over a 3 month period, each writer was given 2 weeks to add a scene of between 10 and 15 minutes before passing the script on to the next writer. The resulting play, directed by the notable Indhu Rubasingham, will be performed for one night only as part of the Almeida’s fundraising benefit.

“Each of the five playwrights has a relationship with the Almeida, and each has a very distinctive voice. The result is rather a wild evening of comedy and dramatic u-turns as the script changes hands and the next writer imposes their own particular style on the play…” Jenny Worton, Artistic Associate, Almeida Theatre
