Local school playground set for super makeover
Ashingdon Primary School receives £4,000 for playground makeover
The pupils at Ashingdon School were jumping for joy today when they heard that their playground is set to get a £4,000 face lift, creating a valuable resource for education, learning and fun.
The transformation of the playground comes as part of ‘RBS Supergrounds’, a £6 million, six-year community investment initiative that allows employees to nominate their local school for a Supergrounds Award. The programme which was launched in September 2004 by The Royal Bank of Scotland Group has already benefited over 450 schools and 120,000 children across the UK. Three other schools in the area have also been selected for year four of the programme, including Holt Farm Infant School, Milton Hall Primary School and St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School. The project will be managed by the national school grounds charity Learning through Landscapes in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork.
RBS Supergrounds has been developed to strengthen ties between company staff and their communities with staff nominating schools they have a connection with. Ashingdon School became involved with the scheme through Adrian Jones, a Client Partner within the Sports & Entertainment team at Coutts & Co who is a Parent and PTA member at the school.
Adrian Jones, said: “As a proud parent and PTA member of Ashingdon School, I was delighted to hear that my nomination for a £4,000 bursary had been successful. Now, my daughter and all her friends can look forward to a new environmental area within the school this summer.”
I’m delighted that the school has been given a RBS Supergrounds award because of my involvement as a parent and PTA member. It is often very difficult for schools to raise the funds necessary to make playground improvements so this scheme seemed an ideal way to help. The Bank’s support makes it all worthwhile when you give up your spare time to support the development of our environmental area at Ashingdon School”.
Ann Steweart Head Teacher at Ashingdon School: “We’re really looking forward to developing the playground at the school with the help of RBS Supergrounds. School playgrounds are one of the few safe outdoor spaces that are available to children and they should offer a stimulating environment for children to learn and play. Our pupils are already busy drawing up the plans. “o Thorne, Regional PR Manager, Coutts & Co on 0207 957 2650 or mobile 0776 6070 859 or e-mail joanna.thorne@coutts.com
