Coutts & Co sponsor propeller’s all-male theatre production of Twelfth Night at the Lowry

Coutts & Co is sponsoring The Watermill Theatre and The Old Vic’s touring productions, The Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night by the all-male Shakespeare company Propeller, and will be entertaining guests at a showing of Twelfth Night at The Lowry on Thursday 19 April 2007.

Propeller has been performing The Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night since January this year, starting at London's celebrated Old Vic before heading on to Australia, Hong Kong and New York, embarking on their UK tour this week.

Twelfth Night, a comedy of mistaken identity, deception, and transformation, is directed by Edward Hall, son of legendary British theatre and film director, Sir Peter Hall. As principal sponsors of Edward Hall’s Propeller tour, Coutts & Co will entertain clients throughout the tour at various regions.

Nigel Cooke, Senior Private Banker at Coutts & Co in Manchester commented: “Coutts has a long history of supporting the arts, and has looked after many clients connected with music and literature. It’s therefore only appropriate that we would lend our support to Edward in bringing his work to Manchester.

“Edward infuses his work with ingenuity and imagination, which results in captivating and humorous theatre and where men play women characters. The 12-strong Propeller cast has much in common with Coutts - most notably with their emphasis on ‘family’.  During rehearsals, the cast lives together, pitches in together, has no hierarchy and has lots of fun.“

In Twelfth Night, nothing on the island of Illyria is quite what it seems.  Shipwrecks, storms, late night drinking, duels and broken hearts make fertile ground for Shakespeare’s most beautiful and haunting of comedies. With their infusion of traditional and contemporary aesthetics, Propeller imbues Shakespeare’s story with freshness that appeals to young and old alike.

The cast is;

Bob Barrett, Jason Baughan, Tony Bell, Dugald Bruce-Lockhart, Alasdair Craig, Joe Flynn, Chris Myles, Simon Scardifield, Jack Tarlton, Dominic Tighe, Jon Trenchard, Tam Williams.

Coutts Manchester office has provided a convenient base for the large numbers of clients in the area since it opened in 1993. The largest percentage of clients falls into the entrepreneurial sector, which reflects the continued progress of Manchester’s reputation as one of the key business areas in the UK. Coutts commitment to growing its business in Manchester and throughout the area is reflected by the recruitment of three new private bankers, five private banking assistants and two team assistants in the last 12 months. There are also further expansion plans for 2007.
