Lord George hosts garden party for Cornish Coutts clients to raise awareness of the Cornwall Community Foundation
Last week, over 30 Coutts clients from Cornwall braved the Cornish spring rain to enjoy a garden party hosted by Lord George at his home in St Tudy. The party which was also attended by Sarah Deaves, the Chief Executive of Coutts was organised to raise the profile of the Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF), which provides charitable support for projects in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Community Foundation Network has recently announced that CCF has become the latest community foundation to be accredited in England and Wales as part of the relationship with Coutts. At the garden party, Sarah Deaves emphasised the importance of philanthropy and how Coutts were moving to support their clients in their philanthropic aims by forging relationships with Community Foundations throughout the UK.
Mark Evans, head of philanthropy at Coutts said: “Coutts is proud to be working with the Community Foundation, who’s goal is to improve the quality of life for underprivileged or disadvantaged people in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Many of our clients are interested in helping local and smaller charities and we’re able to assist by introducing them to each other. We recognise the significant role that CCF plays within the local community and we’re delighted to support activities such as this garden party.”
During his speech Lord George, who is a trustee of the CCF and vice president of the Community Foundation Network in the UK, reflected on his move to Cornwall with his wife four years ago and how he was struck by the real sense of community:
“What I have recognised, and what we all need to recognise, is that with the best will in the world, we can’t leave social questions simply to government. That’s not a political comment; government necessarily has to set policies for the country, and for the county as a whole. It can’t be expected to identify the needs of each particular community at local level. All of us have a vital role to play in helping our neighbours certainly and in creating a more peaceful atmosphere in which to live.”
Since it was set up in 2003 the Foundation has helped each year around 180 organisations and individuals and distributed almost £500,000 in grants each year.
There are many ways that individuals can help the CCF, from becoming a Friend of the Foundation to a one-off donation, a legacy in their will or by contributing to a specific collective grant fund, or for larger amounts, to a named fund for a specified purpose.
However individuals choose to support the CCF, they can feel confident that their money is going to where it is most needed – supporting individuals and projects in communities throughout Cornwall.
