Coutts & Co Launches ‘Assets and Responsibility’ Course
Coutts & Co has this week launched its first financial education programme for clients’ children.
The bank has offered financial education to families through the private office and family business and philanthropy seminars for a number of years, however this is the first time that Coutts has formalised an intensive 2˝ day course for the next generation of clients.
The overall aim of the ‘Coutts Assets & Responsibility Course’ is to ensure that the next generation of clients understands the power of wealth, as well as developing commercial and personal financial acumen. The course intends to motivate the students to realise the opportunities that their wealth affords them and aims to allay some of the concerns that many clients have expressed in relation to passing their wealth to the next generation.
Fiona Fenn Smith, Head of Strategic Marketing, commented: “We launched this course in response to demand from clients that there was no comprehensive course in the market to adequately prepare their children to inherit. Passing down wealth can bring a variety of challenges to families, not only from a wealth management perspective but also from a personal perspective and through this course we aim to address both issues.”
Coutts has worked closely with educational consultants, Bonas McFarlane to produce this course in order to ensure that each subject area has clear objectives and learning outcomes for the participants.
Both academics and top industry professionals, including leading entrepreneurs and an experienced investment portfolio manager deliver the course. The use of external tutors ensures that the course is broad and is also delivered in an innovative and engaging way.
The course covers the following subject areas:
- Spending and budgeting
- Investing
- The history and function of the City
- Basic economic principals and trends
- Types of assets and how to invest
- How to read the financial press
- How to set up your own enterprise
- Philanthropy
- Human assets including career and educational advice, personal brand, reputational risk and personal safety.
