Coutts & Co hosts Family Business forum
The Secrets of Long-term Success
On 17 June, Coutts will host an evening at Pennyhill Park Hotel & Spa in Bagshot for family businesses from across Surrey, examining in practical terms the challenges that currently face family firms.
The event is the latest in a series to take place throughout the country, giving family business owners the opportunity to engage in interactive debates, discussions and panel sessions that aim to offer practical advice and real life examples to share with family members and colleagues.
The forum will be hosted by Andy Rymer, Coutts’ Managing Partner for the South East and will include the following speakers:
- Jonathan Neame, Chief Executive, Shepherd Neame Ltd. Shepherd Neame has 369 pubs across the South East and is Britain’s oldest brewer. It recently received the Coutts Prize for Family Business 2009/10 – ‘Best UK Family Business, £25m+ turnover category’. Jonathan will talk about how the family has managed to achieve its long-term success and the interactive session will explore and debate some of the challenges they’ve faced along the way.
- Juliette Johnson, Head of UK Family Business, Coutts & Co. Juliette will talk on the subject of ‘Solving tomorrow’s predictable problems today.’ Using a number of simple tools and techniques, the interactive and practical session will demonstrate how to identify the future risks and challenges that can arise within family businesses.
Juliette Johnson said: "Having family members working together in a family business can create a powerful and cohesive management team, yet there can be challenges that arise from differences in individual style of working or vision. The key to success is ensuring families can work together by managing those differences and developing open communication and clarity in everything they do.
"Working closely with clients over the years has shown us that family businesses benefit from hearing the concerns and thoughts of others that have been in similar positions themselves. It helps families to identify future challenges and provides comfort and support, making them realise that their own situation is neither unique nor impossible. As a company that started off as a family business, we look forward sharing our experiences."
