Coutts & Co in the Midlands sponsors Propeller’s Richard III at the Belgrade theatre

Last night, clients of Coutts in the Midlands, including local entrepreneurs and business professionals were treated to a showing of Richard III at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. The production was by the all-male Shakespeare company Propeller, one of the UK’s most celebrated and innovative Shakespeare theatre companies and was the first night of the tour.

Propeller is directed by Edward Hall, son of legendary British theatre and film director Sir Peter Hall. As principal sponsors of the tour, Coutts is entertaining clients throughout the tour from across its regional offices.

Propeller’s Richard III is the sixth and final chapter in their staging of Shakespeare’s complete War of the Roses cycle. It takes Hammer horror and Grand Guignol as its inspirations and in it, macabre beauty and bloody sensuality reign as the devilish House of York, led by the Machiavellian Richard, takes on the purer-than-pure House of Lancaster in an England riven by civil war.

Propeller was formed over 10 years ago by Edward Hall at the Watermill Theatre in Newbury. It was founded with the desire to produce plays with great clarity, speed and as much imagination in the staging as possible. They have also been influenced by mask work, animation and classic and modern film and music from all ages.

Jo Thornell, Managing Partner for Coutts in the Midlands said. "Propeller is a hugely exciting and widely acclaimed theatre company and we are delighted that our support helps them flourish artistically with the confidence to experiment that comes from a committed backing. This really was a first-class show at a first-class theatre and Propeller’s innovative interpretation of Shakespeare went down extremely well with our guests. We wish the team continued success for the rest of the tour."
