Charities seminars – One Parent Families

One Parent Families event at The River Room, House of Lords, 21 February

One Parent Families hosted a reception at the House of Lords funded by Coutts.  The event was to raise awareness of their work and new initiative, Children First, which aims to take children out of poverty.

The evening was hosted by the Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer of Thornton by kind permission of the Lord Speaker, Baroness Hayman, both of whom said a few words about One Parent Families.

Coutts were given the opportunity to say a few words at the event. Mark Jankovich, Head of Charities at Coutts & Co said;

“What OPF probably doesn't know is that by approaching us six years ago, they kick-started an awareness of the plight and social trauma that lone parents go through, resulting in us actively seeking ways of how we could help” "He also outlined other areas where RBS are working with under privileged children including RBS' funding of the "Loan Parent Helpline for the last 6 years which in 2005 alone fielded 25,000 calls." In addition he went on to explain that “the RBS group allows staff time off to work in the community and one initiative, ‘Face 2 Face with Finance’, is the most extensively used financial education resource for schools in the UK. Last year alone, the programme educated 450,000 school pupils about money. Also, RBS is the only bank and Company in the UK to double match what its employees give to charity.” For more information visit www.rbs.com/community
