At a glance
We are looking for 10 high calibre graduates to work in Coutts & Co in the UK. In addition to this, if you have the right to work in Hong Kong or Singapore, we have a couple of opportunities for you to join our graduate programme in the UK, spend 3 years becoming a fully trained private banker, then head back to Asia to start your private banking career in earnest.
The prestigious name in wealth management
As the Group’s international private banking arm, Coutts manages client assets of more than £63 billion for some 107,000 clients worldwide through businesses based in the UK, Asia, continental Europe, the Middle East, and offshore jurisdictions. Since 1692, Coutts has remained committed to building one-to-one relationships and delivering unsurpassed service to our clients.
Private Banking – it’s all about relationships
As a private banker, you’ll need to deal with our clients’ individual and varied financial needs, which could range from assisting with general banking queries, arranging a mortgage, through to arranging for the client to meet a financial planning specialist to discuss pensions or estate planning. Through a rich mix of technical and business training, we’ll help you to develop the diverse knowledge and skills you’ll need, starting with a comprehensive induction.
Year one
This will be spent on building your foundation knowledge through a programme of visits and attachments. You will also be aligned to a client team to undertake the role of a private banker’s assistant. These activities are designed to familiarise you with our systems and products. We’ll also support you in studying for an appropriate professional qualification that will eventually allow you to give investment advice to our clients.
Year two
You will build on the knowledge you have gained from your first year and perhaps arrange a rotation elsewhere within the Wealth division to increase your product knowledge (e.g. financial planning, investment management). Personal development training will be ongoing throughout the programme, and during this year we’ll also support you to complete the Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP).
Year three
At this point, you’ll focus on building your client relationship skills and start the training and accreditation programme for private bankers. Once you’ve successfully completed these activities and have passed a final assessment centre, you will be registered with the Financial Services Authority. You’ll then be ready to start as a junior private banker, responsible for managing client relationships and maximising business potential.
What we’ll be looking for
We will accept a good degree in any discipline, and some prior work experience is essential. You’ll also need the intellectual stamina to gain a professional qualification while serving your clients and developing your career.
