Charities

Throughout our 300 year history, the bank has pursued a very wide range of charitable interests, most famously, perhaps, in the time of Angela Burdett-Coutts, one of the great Victorian philanthropists.  Her extraordinarily diverse good works included being among the first to support cancer research, donating at least two lifeboats and serving as President of the Ladies’ Committee of the RSPCA.

In the present day, this philanthropic tradition is proudly upheld.  Every year, the bank donates part of its profits to charity.  In addition, like our clients, we are anxious to increase the impact of our giving, and therefore we have a policy of supporting many smaller, less well known charitable enterprises, whose work we feel is specially deserving of our corporate backing.

For example, Coutts supported the launch of a new charity, Global Angels, which put on a fund-raising pop-concert in the atrium of our head office at 440 Strand; and we recently sponsored Birds Eye View, the first ever UK women’s film festival. While, among higher profile good causes, we are delighted to support The Prince’s Trust for 5 years, and Show Racism the Red Card.

In addition, over the years we have developed a banking and investment service that is exceptionally well adapted to the needs of charities. Today, a specialist Coutts team helps over 1000 charity clients to manage their finances effectively.
