Coutts Prize for Family Business 2007/8 – Regional Winner

Turnover Category £1-5m London and Greater London Region

Regent Development Ltd, has been  named ‘Best UK Family Business, London and Greater London Region, in the £1-5m turnover category of the Coutts Prize for Family Business 2007/8. The company will now go on to compete in the £1-5M category at the national finals to be held in central London on Thursday 5 June 2008.

The Dartford based home insurance building repair specialist began operation in 1990 and since then, have become a preferred supplier to some of the UK’s largest insurance companies.

Jonathan Hagger, Regional Chairman of the evaluation committee commented:
“As a successful first generation family business that specialises in home insurance and building repairs, the things that impressed the evaluation committee about Regent Development Ltd included:

  • The ability of the business to grow profitably and carve out a strong competitive and financial position in a niche industry;
  • The inclusive approach of the family business evidenced by their ability to employ several members of the immediate and wider family in the business;
  • The emphasis given to open communication and transparency evidenced by weekly management meetings and an open door policy;
  • The business’ innovative focus and investment in training and development of family and non-family employees; and
  • The special attention paid to the company’s community and environmental policy where energy efficient measures and an active recycling initiative has been put in place.
